I will dance with Cinderella...

There is something so precious about a father and daughter relationship that can never be replaced. I was so blessed to have one of the best fathers known to man and I always say my confidence comes from him. And to see my little Athena with her daddy in this picture makes me smile. She is so proud to be with him and I can only imagine how much she looks up to him for that affirmation that she is pretty and that she is the best. I never had many admirers growing up, they always seemed to want to go out with my friends, but I always thought I was pretty. Why? Because when I left my house everyday my father always complimented me on how beautiful I was. He still tells me to this very day and I just melt. And I remember a story our pastor shared a few months ago about a girl going to therapy for looking for love in all the wrong places. Her father and her didn't have a good relationship and she sought out that relationship in other men. When the counselor asked what when wrong and when, the little girl who was now in her 20's sitting on this couch with her father and mother trying to get through life's problems, said "it was my senior prom and my mom and I worked all day getting my nails done, my hair done, a new dress, my make up and I felt so pretty. I ran downstairs and asked my dad how do I look? What do you think? And he just kept his newspaper up in front of his face, never putting it down to see me. I was crushed and left that night with my date and I didn't feel so pretty and it all started. The father broke down in tears and apologized to her. He said he was so uncomfortable that he didn't know what to say, so he said nothing at all. The impact of a father is enormous. So as they went off to the Daddy/Daughter dance I knew Athena would remember it forever. They danced all night, he spun her around on that dance floor, took her to a nice dinner, and gave her a present. Fabulous date that one day someone else will have to live up to. I pray for her husband to be and I know that her daddy will be there for her just like my dad was and is today. Thank heavens for fathers, fathers who love, who give, who dance every dance, not wanting to miss one song. " 'Because all to soon, the clock will strike midnight, and she'll be gone..."

Nina's Cafe

WOW! Where did February go? I swear days are going by faster and faster!!! Okay, maybe not, but it sure feels like it. As we end February and enter into March I thought I would share with one a silly dinner I do with my kids whenever I feel lazy and don't feel like cooking. Anyways, every now and then I play Nina's Cafe...a Texas Paula Dean version who owns her own cafe and serves up whatever's on the menu. My kids get a kick out of these dinners and I get to pretend I am someone else, accent and all! Now Athena tries to be southern and it's just the cutest thing! So, this particular night Athena had a friend over and she is an only child. I can only imagine what goes through her head when she is hanging out at our house. Not a quiet moment occurs while she is here and someone is crying or whining 24/7. So I decide it's Nina's Cafe night. I think McKenna left that night a little scared, wondering if maybe Athena's mom is a little nuts! Anywho...we proceeded with menus and I with my apron on, note pad in had, taking orders. Now, if we have unruly customers, we sometimes have a cop who helps out, hubby, he known as Officer Jones and he takes unruly customers outside until they agree to behave. We practice manners, sitting and having a conversation, and how to order politely! We even practice our southern accents...oh the memories! Happy Leap Year!

Valentines Day

This Valentine's day I did not get dolled up for my husband, I did not get a babysitter, I did not go out to dinner with my hubby, I did not receive any flowers or a card that I signed from my husband to me every year. No I did not get any of that...I ran around to class parties, dance classes, take care of my mom, made dinner for myself and kiddos and cleaned it all up. Couldn't wash my dishes properly because my disposal is broken so the trash stinks in my house. My kids wouldn't go to bed, and as I am writing this I am exhausted knowing I still have laundry to put away and a big project to get ahead on at work that I brought home(which I never do). My hubby is at his basketball game, which he probably will not win again (bless his heart, in basketball world we say "we're young this year"-simply meaning it is going to be a long year) My kids are still up and NOT sleeping, my house still smells, and my laundry is still on my bed. I needed a flashlight tonight, but couldn't find one because my children break everything. And then it hits me in my pity party, a sweet Valentine, handwritten by my son who can see it hasn't been an ideal day. And for a moment, my heart remembers that even though life is tough, it is so good. Happy Valentines...

Lady Fingers

Oh my goodness! Do these take me back to childhood in an instant heart beat! WOW! I was shopping at Cost Plus for some fun treats today when I stumbled on these Lady Fingers! Lady Fingers take me back to when I was living on Madison Street downtown off of Belmont! Yes, down there in a not so cute street lived a family in one little home that was the cleanest on the block. It had a porch that was carpeted in green velour type flooring by the lady of the house, a shiny red door, and cute little lace drapes peaking through the window. We had the cutest house on the block...I think it was in the Home Tour of People's Church one year! Anyways, off the subject, back to the Lady Fingers...there I was walking through the isles of Cost Plus, seeing the world through chocolates and desserts, with one kid yelling stop! and the other running behind me with a cart...I was hoping the entire time that he wouldn't-"ouch!"-run into my ankles. There with my throbbing ankles I saw this package labeled Lady Fingers...and instantly there I was in the brick kitchen on Madison Street eating a peach lady finger cake. Mmmm, my mother made it all the time and it was her signature. People always came over for some Lady Finger Peach cake. So I had to purchase these Lady Fingers and try to find the recipe my mother used to create such a memory. After A LOT of googling, I found a recipe closely replicating my mother's cake. The only thing missing is my mother covered the cake in cool whip. I am thinking I can layer this in a bowl, much like death by chocolate, and give it a modern twist! I will be making this over the next few weeks, and when I do, I will blog you! Happy Love month...

Peach Refrigerator Cake

1/2 pound marshmallows
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup ginger ale
1 cup heavy cream, whipped
Sponge cake or lady fingers
6-8 peaches, sliced
1/2 cup chopped crystallized ginger

Cut marshmallows in quarters, add to orange juice and stir over hot water until almost melted; cool slightly and add ginger ale. When slightly thickened fold in 3/4 cup whipped cream. Line a spring form pan with waxed paper. Arrange layer of cake or ladyfingers on bottom, next a layer of peaches, then layer of marshmallows; repeat until there are 3 layers of cake and 2 of filling. Chill in refrigerator overnight. Unmold; garnish with remaining peaches and cream and ginger.

It ain't easy being cheesy!

So it's February...hard to believe it's the LOVE month! I feel very blessed to have a husband who LOVES me SO much and one that I LOVE equally, although he says he loves me more! (LOL) So I thought for the next 14 days I would celebrate the love of my life! (Sorry it's a little cheesy!) I am so lucky to have a man who works his tail off for his family, who loves to play with his kids, who thinks I'm hot, and who will be perfectly content with a bowl of cereal for dinner when my life gets too crazy and I have nothing to cook! And last night my friend, Christina Patricio, invited friends over for a little craft night. We were creating a deck of cards labeled with 52 Reasons why we love who we love...which kicked off the month! I thought it was a little cheesy and that my husband would laugh that I made this for him, but when I gave it to him he was so impressed and sat and read through it all, chuckling a bit on the ones that brought up fond memories. I guess you forget that once when you were dating you would do cheesy love things to show your man how much you love him. I need to get back to that because obviously Johnny gets a kick out these types of gestures. If you want to create this at home for your man, all you need is a deck of cards (53 of them) one for the cover, and a good hole puncher, rings, and some cut paper and a sharpie pen and you're set to go! Oh and some ribbon to make it a little pretty of course! Happy Love Month!

A Promise Kept

Recently a friend of mine sent me this book about a couple's journey with Alzheimer. This book is beautifully and gently written by the husband whose wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer and their journey with it for the ten to fifteen years that she lived with it. Of course it reminded me of my mother and my father and I see so much of my dad in this book. I see the love he has for my mother and how he takes care of her daily and provides only the best. One of my favorite parts from this book is when the husband said he "gets" to take care of his wife. Here is the context which is so beautiful to me written from the husband's point of view:

"The decision was made, in a way, 42 years ago when I promised to care for Muriel "in sickness and in health...till death do us part." So as I told the students and faculty, as a man of my word, integrity has something to do with it. But so does fairness. She has cared for me fully and sacrificially all these years; and if I cared for her for the next 40 years I would not be out of her debt. Duty, however, can be grim and stoic. But there is more: I love Muriel. She is a delight to me-her childlike dependence and confidence in me, her warm love, occasional flashes of wit I used to relish so,

her happy spirit and tough resilience in the face of her continual distressing frustration.

I don't have to take care of her. I get to! It is a high honor to care for so wonderful a person."

These are the words I read over the past two days. I am not a reader because I don't seem to have time in my day to fit in a book. But this one, because so dear to my heart of an issue, I couldn't put down. My kids say this book makes mom cry and they would ask me are you crying every time they saw me reading it. I cry because I see my mother. I cry because I see my father so deeply caring for this wonderful person and I cry hoping one day that it's not me who needs all this care by my loved ones and my body deteriorating, unable to do everything I love doing. Thank you Nicole for this reading and thank you dad for loving mom more deeply everyday. I pray for more love and more strength as you get to take care of her.

Colorado Cache Cookbook

One of my dearest friends, who shall remain nameless because she does not like blogging her information, let me borrow her "bible" as she calls it, her favorite cook book that she lives by! So I did some page thumbing and really enjoyed it all! So I thought I would share some tips I found helpful and a fabulous corn bread recipe called Johnny Cake (Don't know why I liked this one so much!).

Hints from Golden:

Always Stir Rice with a fork, or toss it with 2 forks. Using a spoon bruises the grains and makes them sticky.
Rice will be fluffier and drier if a slice of dry bread is put on top of it after cooking and draining.
To keep noodles from boiling over add 1 tablespoon butter to the cooking water.
For fluffier mashed potatoes add a pinch of baking soda along with the milk and butter.
Soak raw potatoes in cold water at least 30 minutes before frying to improve crispiness.
Too keep cooked rice warm, place rice colander over simmering water and cover with cloth or paper towels.
Add a little white wine, Marsala or sherry to uncooked rice that has been stirred into some melted butter in the saucepan. Add regular amount of liquid and cook for a superb tasting rice.
To make lighter muffins, place greased pans into the oven for a few minutes before adding batter.

Johnnycake

1/2 cup butter or margarine

1 tablespoon vinegar (or lemon juice)

1 cup minus 1 tablespoon, milk

1 1/2 cups cornmeal

3/4 cup flour, unsifted

3/4 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 eggs

1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

8 Servings

Melt butter and set aside. Pour vinegar into measuring cup, add milk and set aside. In a large mixing bowl combine conrmeal, flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in eggs and butter. Add soda to milk, stir and add to mixture bowl. Mix well. Pour into greased pan or muffin tins. Bake at 375 degrees about 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Note: This is the best when served warm. Excellent when served with butter and maple syrup.

I Amaze Myself

(Don't be fooled by the headline...I'm not saying I am amazing...it's something every mother should say to herself every night as she ends her day...because I think you are all amazing creatures!) With that said...

Every night I hit the pillow and wonder to myself, wow, I really did all that? And I wonder how many mothers out there think the same thing at night when the house is all silent, slightly picked up or immaculately picked up and you actually can think. I've always thought about all the "mothers" around the world and how they "do" their lives. We really were created to do great things. I listen to my friends often as they talk about their days of pick-ups and drop-offs, sick children and vomit all over the place, play dates and birthdays, and family gatherings, and work, and dinners and lunches, sports, music, tutoring...the list goes on. It's just amazing what one body can do. And yet through this all we manage, we survive, and we smile. I could sit here and share my day and have you all amazed, but you all do the same thing. This thing called life, we do it. We wake up unwillingly every day to do the same thing. Get ready, get the kids ready, practice sight words on the way to school, drop off with a smile and coats and lunches and back packs, drop off at day cares, check in to work, go to play dates, lunches with friends, doctor appointments, gym, clean house, do laundry, make dinner, pick up, dance, sports, gymnastics, etc. then home again to dinner, homework, baths, teeth, clean up kitchen, make lunches for tomorrow...I'm exhausted...all this to say to each and every mom out there...You Amaze me...and I hope you Amaze Yourself! Good night...till tomorrow.

Paradise

I often wonder sometimes when in the trenches of life how many times I miss the moment; where I get carried away in trying to keep a neat house, clean children, straight A's (which we don't have), laundry completely folded and put away by Sunday night, homework done, lunches packed, dance class here, gym class there, basketball over there, prepare dinner (a healthy one), monitor sugar intake, make it on time-and the moment is gone. A moment when my children show me what life is really all about. The moment captured in the picture above is really enjoyed now as I sit down in the midst of my messy kitchen counters and piles of mail to be filed, I look at these little people and their faces and how they are captured perfectly. Their innocence is beaming through their faces and their posing in this picture. It just takes me to paradise. Their fighting, their grumpiness, their lack of listening is all gone when I look at this picture. Their true personality, raw for all to see is right here in front of me and it just makes me pause and reflect on the paradise God has given me here on earth. That song by Cold Play begins with the words "There she was just a girl, she expected the world," I was that girl and I expected the world. This is my world, more than I could of ever expected. I don't have to close my eyes because it's in my face 24/7 and one day they will have their own lives and I will be wishing for this time again. So I know we are reminded often that this time will fly by, and I always say I feel like time is standing still, I'm still here! But I am still here and trying to breath it all in, holding on to it very tight. I know my mom had these moments and held on to them very closely and her mind betrayed her and took all those moments. It crushes me inside to think about that as a mother to my own babies. Soak it all in, breath in your paradise. It will all be gone too quickly.

Vassilopita

WOW! Where did 2011 go? I feel like we blinked and it happened...and what happened? I guess time really does fly. One of my most fondest memories is a tradition we did at our house on New Years Eve growing up. Every year, without a doubt, my dad would go and buy every piece of fresh seafood he could find from a local market and cook up a storm all day. We would eat fish on New Years Eve to ring in the year with our family and my mom would make this cake, called a Vassilopita, with a quarter inside for good luck. (January 1st is the name day of Aghios Vassilis, the Greek Santa Claus, so the cake is named in his honor. The head of the household would cut the cake and then pass one out to himself first, wife second, then the children, sons first, then daughters, then any guests). So was the tradition held up in the Dictos family household. So after we ate all our fish, and we HAD to or no cake, mom would bring it out and dad would slice it up. Now this cake wasn't fancy nor was it pretty, but it was sure tasty! No magic sprinkles on top or frosting in any color, just a sprinkle of powdered sugar topped it off. She would give each of us a slice and I remember sitting in anticipation of who would get that quarter. We all would lick our lips and sit up right, and try hard to get that fishy after taste out of our mouths!!! Now you see whoever was the receiver of that quarter would have good luck all year. That's it! It wasn't a toy, or lots of money, just a quarter that meant Good luck, that's it! But oh the excitement we would get if we were the lucky one! My mom made it so special...that's what I miss the most I think. The way she would make simple things so magical. So as we enter the new year this is one of the things I am going to work on...making the simple things oh so special. I want my kids to cherish the simple things and remember them as amazing! Thanks mom and dad for providing these memories for me...love you more!

Till Death Do Part

"I Paul, take you Stella, to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part, according to God's holy law, and this is my solemn vow." This is what my dad promised 44 years ago. 44 years ago, he didn't know he was promising to commit to a women who would suffer from early onset Alzheimer. 44 years ago a young boy named Paul didn't know he was promising to take care of a wife who would not be able to take care of herself after the age of 60. 44 years ago, Paul was promising to love a young Stella who captured his heart with her good looks and love of life! He was marrying a beautiful girl who made his heart skip a beat, who he could see his life with forever. And so life went, full of surprises, ups and downs, but they always had each other until this disease stole that life. Until this disease we call Alzheimer took Stella away. They don't travel to Vegas anymore or take random trips to Carmel or Nordstroms. They don't watch the grand kids together over night while we go out and play. No, they don't do that anymore. Instead dad gives mom a bath and dries the entire bath tub before he helps her to get out. He changes her clothes and brushes her teeth. He cooks her meals and cleans up after her. He does the grocery shopping and keeps up the house. When mom had a difficult time using the toilets because of the distance, he bought higher toilets throughout the house so the Queen, as we call her, would feel more secure when sitting down. When the house wasn't getting warm enough, her changed out all the units in the house to keep it warmer longer. When she is scared he holds her. This is my dad, a man who took his vows seriously. When he promised, he promised. He could easily put my mom in a home, but he knew she would be sad not being in her own home. So he hired someone to help, and keeps her in her home. He could easily do what Barry Peterson, a famous journalist whose wife suffers from early onset Alzheimer, has done to cope with the loss of his wife. You see Barry put his wife in a home and because she is not there mentally, he is seeing other women because that is what his wife would of wanted had she known what was happening. And together with this new love, they visit his wife and he has written a book about this showing us how to handle something like this is our own lives. But I would rather take Paul Dictos' way of coping with the loss. Sticking by your wife till death do part, not till sickness do part. So during this Christmas season with your loved ones around and some not close to us, remember your vows to one another, to your children, to your families. It's never easy, it's not supposed to be or else what would be so special about it? I pray that when in this very situation the man I married would be a Paul Dictos, one who would honor his vows till death do part. I love you dad and everything you exemplify. Merry Christmas to the father that has not only shown me and the world what it means to love, but what it means to be a man of your word. Stella is a lucky girl to have Paul as her man. She will be taken care of for life, with class. Love you more...

Celebrating Stella

So it's Christmas and we all have those pictures with Santa in dorky outfits and quirky hair cuts. Most of our parents did a good job of taking us to see the man in the red suit so we could really believe that there was a Santa. And so the tradition continues as many of us wait in a line with our own kids and enjoy their anticipation of Good ol' Saint Nic. I know my sissy and I do it every year and we chronicle it in a book marked Holidays. Whether it's with Santa, The Easter Bunny, or Halloween Costumes, we have one for every year with all kiddos in matching outfits. So as I sit here and celebrate the woman I call mom, it takes me back to good old Weinstocks. My mom used to take us every year on the the Friday after school was out for Christmas Break, to have lunch with Jolly Old Saint Nic. I remember the red plastic booth couches and the "Denny" style plates and cups. She LOVED seeing our faces light up as Santa came by and sat with us and asked us what we wanted for Christmas and if we had been a good boy and girls. We of course were dressed to the nines, even if we were in our school uniforms, our hair was pristine! I remember my mother laughing and everyone knowing her by name. Where ever that woman went she was known and loved. She loved people and getting to know them and helping them if they needed it. She would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it! Where is that Stella, oh my mom. The love she had for life and everything in it. Now she sits at home and still laughs, but she would of loved going out and shopping and seeing Santa! Sometimes she would get in the pics with her grand babies and smile big! I love you mom. Thanks for giving us the joy of life and enjoying everything we have. Whether a lot or not too much. You are the greatest role model of a classy women, loving mommy, and yiayia. Love you more! Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Family Recipes-Chicken Casserole

So tonight my sister reminded me of a family cookbook that our aunt gave to us at our Wedding...10 years ago...and as I thumbed through the pages I was reminded of some great family recipes my mom would make as well as family members. So tonight I thought I would share some good old fashion dinner recipes that remind me of home. I will try to be good and post weekly, but you know how that goes around here! So tonight I;m sharing Chicken Casserole. In the memo here it says that Charlotte (the originator of this recipe) serves this would jello salad and thin slices of nut bread. (ha!) Anyways, enjoy!
Chicken Casserole:
1 cube melted margarine (I use butter)
1 1/2 cups sharp cheese, grated
6 cups cubed bread
4 whole cooked chicken breast cubed
2 Tblsp onion flakes
1/2 pound sliced mushrooms (I do without)
1/2 can water chesnuts, sliced
1/2 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp salt
Pepper to taste
6 eggs
5 cups milk
1 pkg frozen peas
1 tomato sliced
Additional grated cheese

Combine butter, cheese, and bread cubes. Put half in bottom of 9x13 inch casserole. Cover with chicken, onion, mushroom, water chestnut, peas (uncooked), and seasoning. Add remaining bread cubes and more grated cheese on top. Beat eggs and add milk. Pour over casserole and arrange tomato slices on top. Cover with foil and refrigerate one hour or night before. Remove foil and bake at 350 for 45-50 mins. Serves 12-16

Celebrating Stella

Well the Christmas spirit has taken up all my time these past few weeks and I have been missing my time of remembering my mother before the disease we call Alzheimer. It is fitting how some of my fondest memories of my mom was her love of Christmas! The entire house would be decked from the mantle, the tree, the centerpieces throughout the house and of course that dinning room table. Always set from the 1st of December till after the New Years. She loved decorating the tree, and I know all of us have some memory of your own family and how you decorated the tree. My kids will remember that mama had "her" tree will all her "pretty-pretties" and they had their own tree (one for the boys and one for the girls) and that we all couldn't wait to decorate. My memory of my family was that we always decorated the day after Thanksgiving. We sometimes had real trees, but when my mom discovered the magic of fake trees we always had one and we all had to fluff-my least favorite part of the job. But my mom always taught us how to decorate the tree and make it apart of who you are as a family. Our tree had all our ornaments on them on the back:) and beautiful ornaments from Martins on the front. She would make bows and keep the decor throughout the entire place. The bookshelves were decorated, the mirror on top of the fireplace was taken down and a wreath was hung. Christmas floor mats, Christmas bathroom decor, you name she had it. She LOVED this time of year. She created such fond memories of Christmas and New Years. I just love looking at the pictures where life was abundant through her eyes. She would light up any room she entered with her joyfulness. Her tree always shined the brightest, she put a lot of lights on her tree. More than recommended. Her tree was a reflection of her, her brightness, her creativity, and her love. I hope this Christmas you all shine bright and enjoy you family and your friends. Health is a precious gift and if you are well, live bright, love creatively, and be joyful. Merry Christmas...

Celebrating Stella

As the holidays are approaching quickly, it reminds me of how many tables my mother has set and how many family and friends gathered around for Stella's home cooking. So many pictures of her kitchen table being set for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and for no special reason than to have friends and family over to eat, and make memories. My mother was always about making memories, enjoying life, and looking good doing it. We always had someone extra at the tables too...she always set an extra seat in case someone unexpected joined us. She had a gift of making everyone and anyone feel welcomed and a part of the group. I love that about her. She never judged, just opened her arms and invited you over for dinner. My sister is so much like her in that aspect and I love seeing that continue. That generosity. So I always have an extra plate set for my guests when I host and always welcome my friends who have no where to spend the holidays. I love you mom and the hospitable person you always were. Birthdays

So today is my birthday. I celebrated by visiting my parents this morning. I told my mom it's my birthday and even though this illness has stolen her personality and abilities to do simple things, she immediately responded with "oh, where are going to celebrate?" That's how I remember my mom. She was always ready for a party. She celebrated every one of our birthdays with a party. She'd lay out her gold spoons in a pattern on the table. Her punch bowl was never missing and she would fill fancy bowls and dishes with fruit and nuts. And in the center of the party table was her infamous lady finger cake. We always ate birthday cake with those gold spoons. These traditions she created are ones that as an adult I have come to appreciate even more than before. I just love how this woman came from a different culture without her family and started a new family with her husband and new traditions. She created a life of joy and love for all who she came into contact with. My home was always filled with love and an appreciation for life! I love this woman and all the special touches throughout our lives. On this 35th birthday my kids have celebrated me and my husband has spoiled and my father always providing for me and my family, and my dear sissy giving everything she has. But my mom, we would of gone out together all day and she would of spoiled me with things I couldn't afford or needed because that's how she was. She is my mom and she always spoiled me. She was always the one who would be frivolous on my birthday and I miss her. Love you mom!

So my dad handed me this picture today and was reminded how vibrant and alive my mom used to be. This picture brought back the beauty he fell in love with many years ago. And it's hard to remember her like this when all we see is the disease and what it's making of her. We forget that she did so many things, so many talented things. She too wanted the best for her family, her husband, and her grandkids. She was me. She was me without her parents close by to ask for help with the kids when she needed a break. She was me, baking cookies and cakes and making flower arrangements for parties. She was me and every mother out there today trying to raise a family and love her husband and friends. She was me, wanting to look nice and keeping her children looking nice. She was me, wanting to be remembered by her children as a great mom who was always there for them and who created memories and traditions they would do with their own families. I hate this disease. I look at this picture and I think if my mom only knew what would happen to her mind so early on in life. How would she have lived her younger years? Are there any regrets? Any trips not taken? Anything she wished she would of said or done? I love you mom and I am going to keep your youthfulness and vibrance alive for as long as I can. And if this is my future, I hope my girls will do the same. You are an awesome mom, talented, and the best friend I could ever ask for. Love you more!

Quick and Easy Zesty Chicken in Crockpot

I just had to share a REALLY super easy and tasty dish for dinner...Zesty Chicken. I found it on Fancy Road House Blog and have shared it with many friends. So, I thought since it was such a big hit with everyone, I would post! Enjoy!

4-6 Chicken Breast
1 Zesty Pack of Italian Seasoning
2 cans of cream of chicken
1 pkg of cream cheese

Place chicken in crockpot
Seasoning
Melt Cream cheese and cream of chicken over stove top
Then pour cream cheese and cream of chicken onto the chicken in the crockpot
Put on low for 4-5 hours and dinner is served! SO EASY!

Times are tough here at the Jonesy household this week. We had to replace the pool vacuum, our water service pipe, our car battery, and our garage door. Money becomes tighter every week and easily I can sit here and complain about it (which I have), but Gracie (a wise friend of mine) reminded me tonight on Facebook that all is well. As she said "All living things are OK; material things can be replaced." So true, so true. I bet my mom would give anything to be in the midst of my life and helping me in every way. So I sit here tonight dwelling on my mom and the joyful spirit she always tried to share with everyone. As I look back at this picture taken in Athens, Greece (isn't she stunning?) I remember all the parties our house hosted for friends and family. You wonder why I love to be the hostess of parties? Well I blame my mother! I found this old picture in the house on Madison where we grew up. My birthday is the day before Halloween and I just love the details captured in this photo of my party table. If you look closely you can see the effort my mom put into it to make it special and memorable. We always had her lady finger cake which was layered with peaches and whipped cream. And on my birthday she would always add some spider rings...to be festive. Look at the napkins and plates and paper cups...all layed out strategically, with purpose. Even the gold plated spoons. Yes those are real, from her china set. The table cloth, the candles, and behind that flash spot were my cousins nuts, ART nuts. I think those were everyone's favors! Love it! And let's not forget the orange balloons hanging from the kitchen chandelier. My parents didn't have much when they came from Greece. My dad came here with 200.00 in his pocket and I wonder if my mother ever worried about that like I do tonight. As a child I never wanted, I always had and those memories fill my heart as I type away tonight. Somehow all those material items that keep breaking down around us and those bills that keep accumulating slowly fade from the front of my list. Love you mom. Thanks for all my beautiful parties and your smile! You always made me feel better, you still do tonight:)

Wow...another week has flown by! I can barely catch my breath, let alone my voice! I seemed to have lost my voice this week and battling the cough...however, I had to post today about my mom. We were always brought up to make our beds and have a clean rooms before we left the house and started our day. And somehow I just remember our rooms being spotless! How my mom did that, I do not know because I am constantly yelling at my kids to pick up their rooms and make their beds! There is a picture of my sister and I making our beds with a smile in our cute matching pajamas. I was six and sissy was seven. We always made our beds, no matter what. When my mom so graciously watched my kids when I worked full time as a teacher, I would leave my house at 6:45 and my bed would not always be made. When I would come home my bed was perfectly made and my house so clean. I miss those days when my mom would come by and just help me survive. She would fold my laundry, clean my house, always swept, and made my bed. I always make my bed now. And when I do I think of her and how perfectly she kept house. Hers and mine. I miss those moments of mommy help, they would make my day so much better! She loved her grand babies and watched mine every day 6:45am-4:00pm. Love you mom, you used to do so much and I am so thankful for that!

So I haven't updated my blog since last Sunday...the week has not only carried us away, but it also carried me away from my computer. I don't think I did much on my computer since last week! Wow! Busy moms all around are nodding their heads as they read! But, I didn't want to stop my special celebration of my mom so tonight I stop my laundry folding, lunch preparations, outfit schedules for all kiddos, and cleaning up to take some time for my mom! She actually just left my house an hour ago. Both mom and dad stopped by with chocolate milk and bananas. Kids were thrilled. But I digress, there is an image implanted in my head and I wish I had a phone in my younger days to snap this image and post it for all to see. It's of my dad in his whitey tighteys early in the morning as all of us are getting ready for the day. Each in our own rooms dressing and getting our essentials together, my dad would walk out with black socks mid-calf, whitey tighteys-no so tightey and a dress shirt that my sister and I were responsible for ironing. "Girls", he would say in his heavy Greek accent, "Come, I show you how to iron a shirt properly!" And we would come and watch him put the iron in between the buttons of the shirt and along the shoulders. "This is how you do it! Learn the right way for your husbands!" We were in high school. All this to bring me to mom...she was in charge of the house. She got a pay check every two weeks from dad and she took care of the house, which included 30 dress shirts! My sister and I each had 10 and my mom the last ten. Needless to say I did not marry a man who wears dress shirts, my sister however did. She does not iron her hubby's shirts (sorry to throw you under the bus), but my mom did. My mom never laundered my dad's shirts. She would wash and we would press. She did everything-everything. And I see how she cannot do anything anymore and it saddens me to think she used to do EVERYTHING. I love you mom and think about all you have done and praise you! Go hug your moms!

Every Sunday night I plan to celebrate my mom. She has Alzheimer, as most of you know, and watching this disease slowly progress in this person who I remember as vibrant and so cheerful, breaks my heart in immeasurable ways. Instead of tears though, I was to celebrate who my mom was before this disease defined her. And so once a week, I am going to share with you the women Stella is in my eyes. I hope you celebrate her too, as I know if she knew what was going on right now she would be devastated. So tonight I was to celebrate a memory I so fondly hold on to of my mother. My mom did many things as we grew up. But I always remember how well she took care of herself. Her hair was always done perfectly, make-up was essential, and the right clothes to hide your imperfections were an absolute necessity. She never wore shorts or short skirts because she always felt her legs were too skinny. She always stayed away from pale colors because she felt they made her look a little too pale. She had her colors done and she was warm fall colors and she stuck to them. She was always complimented wherever we went on how beautiful she looked. And to this day people will stop and ask how she is doing and say she was always so pretty! Once in an airport in Germany, a man stopped in front of use while walking to catch another plane and said "wow!" to my mother and went on his marry way. And now as this disease has taken away her ability to physically take care of herself in that way, my dad does her hair in the morning, bathes her like he is washing his own self, and dresses her with the right clothes in her "color". Her make-up is still done daily and she still is so beautiful. Love you mom...

Do you know her? IF you don't you are truly missing out in life as we know it! This is my Sister. Not yours. Although many of you out there would consider her as close as one. But nevertheless, I have dibs on her and she is MY sister. God gave me my sister. She was chosen out of so many. But God chose this one, many miles away in Greece on August 31st. Born to an unwed mother who hid her pregnancy from everyone. She could've aborted her, she could've easily told her parents and lived in sham, but she kept this little girl hidden for 9 months and when it came time to deliver, she asked not to hear her baby's cry because she knew she had not other choice but to give her up to someone who would give her a good life and love her in a way she was unable to at that time. So God saved her and gave her to me. Although OLDER than me, it's always been asked if I was the older one. But I digress, that's another blog moment. She is the "miracle" that brought me and my brother, my dad would say. We were always told that. My mom couldn't get pregnant for 10 years, but delivered a baby girl 13 months after sissy was brought into our lives. And thus began our sisterhood. Through years of sharing a room, to sometimes a bed where she would hold my hand and I would feel safe, to fights over borrowed clothes and tears over boys who hurt us, we were and still are inseparable. She helps me so much. She loves me so much. She has the biggest heart and would give you the shirt off her back, the shoes off her feet, and anything else you would need. There is no one like her, none. She is my best friend and I don't know what I would do without her. She may nag me about my house and the lack of organization it holds and that I need to keep working out and that I must do things a certain way (her way), but I love that. I love her. My parents really raised two sisters to love each other and know that blood isn't always thicker than water. She is my sister. The one I call to share good news, to complain, to seek counsel, to workout with, to split a bagel, to "revamp and reshape", to fight with, to laugh with, and to spend our family time together. If you don't know her, you are missing out. My life is so much richer because of her love for me and my children. Through every pregnancy, delivery, surgery, moment of change, she has been there for me. She comes and cleans my house, cleans and loves my babies as if her own. She organizes me, tells me what to do, and I do it because she is MY sister and she only wants the best for me. So even though it's a little late, I want to wish this beautiful creation of the Lord a very Happy Birthday. I love you sissy and I can't wait to see you again tomorrow! I love how we spend everyday together. Some may laugh, but it's such a gift to have you in my life. I love you...filakia!

Menu for August 28-Sept. 2

So, I purchased a lot of chicken (boneless,skinless,breast) last week at Vons when they were on sale for $1.97lb. So, you might be seeing lots of chicken the next few weeks:) But it's healthy and my kids love it! I also have some fabulous recipes from Rachel Ray...sissy gave me her latest magazine and it is FILLED with awesome recipes!!!
Monday:
BBQ Steak (soy sauce, olive oil, pepper, montreal steak seasoning) and Broccoli and Grand Biscuit Rolls

Tuesday:
Rosemary Ranch Chicken with pasta

Wednesday:
Speedy Easy Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas...family favorite and I'm busy so it's easy for the hubby!

Thursday:
Kickin' Mini Meatloaves (From Rachel Ray...couldn't find recipe online...)
Ingredients:
1 sweet potato (10 oz) peeled and cut into 1/3 inch cubes
3 slices firm white bread, torn
1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
1 egg
1 small onion finely chopped
2 tbsp. chopped cilantro
1 tbsp. finely chopped chipotle chiles in adobo sauce, plus 2 tsp sauce
6 tbsp. ketchup
2 cloves garlic finely chopped
salt and pepper
EXTRA...stuff each meatloaf with 2 tbsp. cheddar for a gooey, cheesy center)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven 20 375. Grease 4 cups of a 6 cup jumbo muffin pan. In a sauce pan of boiling, salted, water, cook the sweet potato until partially cooked (about 3mins) drain.
2. Using a food processor, pulse bread to form breadcrumbsm transfer to a large bowl. Add the beef and egg, onion, cilantro, chipotles, 1 tsp adobo sauce, 2 tbsp ketchup, the garlic, 1 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp pepper, stir to combine. Stur in sweet potato. Divide beef mixture among the greased muffin cups, packing well and mounding slightly. You can add the cheese here.
3. In a small bowl, combine the remaining 4 tbsp ketchup and 1 tsp adobo sauce and coat the tops of the meatloaves with the mixture. Place muffin pan on a baking sheet and bake until cooked through and browned on the top. 40 mins.
FREEZE...wrap the cooled meatloaves, in the pan, with foil and freeze for up to 1 month.
REHEAT: preheat overn to 350 place the muffin pan straight from the freezer, in the oven and bake until heated through. 45-55mins.

Getting organized for back to school was quite an event this year. I spent a whole week preparing outfits, cleaning house, haircuts for four kids and one hubby (I did the boys, friend did the girls for me in exchange for dessert!) washing clothes, cleaning out old clothes and toys, filling out paper work, purchasing school supplies for both kids and teachers, washing car inside and out (that was disgusting, totally paid for that) grocery shopping (since I haven't cooked dinner all summer), and last but not least, creating charts to help us be more organized! I have done SO many charts I really don't stick to just one. I try many, and throughout the year. It seems whenever I do a new one, we (the children) become more interested. This year I have taken on the Dugger Jurisdiction method. Each child gets a "jurisdiction" or "area" they are in charge of. And they are then responsible for that area. Here is our chart.

So you can see I use both pictures and words for my younger ones still mastering reading. If you have the kitchen it consists of wiping down counters and unloading and re-loading dishwasher. Bathroom consists of wiping down counter (with clorox wipes, I buy generic for half the price and they use one a night) leaving NO toothpaste behind-including the sinks! And wiping down toilet and floor in case there is water left behind from bath time. Outside consists of picking up towels and hanging them up to dry and picking up all the clothes left behind from changing into swimsuits...and last but not least great room is cleaning up that area by putting back pillows on sofa, picking up any toys, shoes, cups, etc. This helps me with chores and the only reward is getting your dessert! Done with stickers and rewards costing me more than hiring someone to do it for me!

Then, I made a Routine Chart which kids use to keep them on track in the morning. I think I should make a night routine chart as well. It went really well this morning and I didn't have to repeat my self a thousand times! I got the idea from How Does She? I created this on Printshop like they said and got most of the pics from the site they offered. I also looked some up on Google. I think I have to tweak it a bit and add a few things, but this is just a good reference for the kids to get used to a routine again. I like this procedure because I don't have to stick stickers on 10 different things 4x!

Sitting here watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians, an old episode, but one that I might remember for a bit. One that spurred me to my blog to write. During this particular episode Kris Jennar, the mom who has really been the brains behind this family realizes how she is missing these "moments" of her teenage daughter's lives and how she wants to be a part of those "moments" before there aren't any to be a part of. And I thought about my week I just had. Full of parties for friends and clients, ups and downs, and moments. Moments that will shape who I am. Moments with friends, family, and events going on all around us. I took this picture today after I took the kids school supply shopping. This was a moment I thought about a lot today. Here my kids are excited about picking out pencils, glue, binders, paper, etc. Excited to pick out a pink scissor and the package of markers that had their favorite color. Excited about their outfit that will shape this first day of school picture that mom always takes in front of the black door with a sign. And I think about their faces and how this moment was captured and one I will hold on to dearly. Simple moment in my life that makes me excited for all the moments we will have together. Life can be so good with these moments we continue to create. So instead of folding the 5 loads of laundry awaiting me, I am enjoying this moment that puts a smile on my face. A peaceful house, sleeping children who were exhausted tonight, sleeping hubby who loves me so much it humbles me. This moment of pure happiness, totally enjoying it, blogging it, remembering, anticipating even more. Moments...we have so many moments, don't want to miss a single one.

This past weekend I was able to enjoy a care-free life with my hubby for 4 days! We lived it up in Vegas and played like we were 21 years old and had no responsibility to anyone! We laughed, we danced, we hung out. Just me and him and some close friends as we celebrated our 10 year anniversary. It was like we were boyfriend and girlfriend once again! I just loved our time. Had our make-up done everyday after lounging by the pool all day, tanned, mani/pedi, hair made up, dresses and heals every night. Lots of fun was had by all! And of course, it ended all too soon and we were quickly thrown back into the swing of life. Life...this life we try to escape from for a few days and rest and re-energize ourselves and our relationships. This life that we do everyday to the best of our ability. This life that we wake up to everyday and re-live over and over. We wake up, start our day, face our challenges, enjoy our coffees, our jobs, our house, our activities, drop off, pick ups, try new things, make dinner, clean up dinner, clean up ourselves, our house, and go to sleep to wake up and do it again. Vacation just takes us away for a small moment and give us renewed energy to keep doing it. Everyone needs a break, a time to NOT live our lives. We came back on Monday in the afternoon...came home to my 4 babies, my stowaway, and my niece and nephew-break was over immediately! Oh, but this Life...how much we love it...this has gotta be a good life. Left the glitz and glam, the pampering, the dressing up and feeling like a pretty young thing, back in Vegas and put my workout clothes on, no make-up, flip-flops, ponytail, sweated all day long taking kids to camp, entertaining them with water parks, ice cream, and laughter...this has gotta be a good good life. Good, good life.

We have 12 kids between the three of us! This has gotta be a good life!

The Mall

Today I ventured out to the mall with all 4 children and for the first time NO STROLLER was needed. This was just heartbreaking and I had no where to put my drink or all their drinks or their pretzels! I had no where to put our shopping bags and we had to carry everything! We stayed at the mall for 4 hours! Some of you might say I am so not smart to do something like this, why? do this do yourself. And at one moment today I thought the same thing. I wish I snapped this picture that I think might stay with me mentally for years to come. Picture it, Mall 2011, Love Culture is calling my name (hadn't been there yet). Shopping in this crazy environment with four crazy children. Zoe is walking around whining loudly how she wants to buy her someting...Niko is jumping up and down to see how loud he can make his flip flops sound, Loukas is crawling under the clothes to hide, and Athena is just too tired to do much but look completely lost and run into the million racks stacked so closely together! I should of left by now, but I had to try on these sparkly heels. Which then led to Niko trying some on as well and Zoe still whining I need to buy her someting. I should have left now, but no I spotted a couple dresses I feel should be tried on with all four children. So I yell over the loud music and gather them into this tiny dressing room. They all insist on coming inside. I am naked trying on dresses and I look down into four faces covered in cinnamon and sugar, red tongues from the strawberry lemonade they are sharing and fighting over loudly and splatting everywhere on the white walls of the dressing room. And I am trying to look at myself wondering if this dress makes me look fat! I just stopped and giggled to myself and cherished this most ridiculous idea I had of spending the day shopping at the mall. I should of left but I didn't. I tried on 10 more dresses at Macy's and purchased shoes from there too. We went on to meet Greg Townsend from the Raiders at the Raider store, back-to-school shopping at the GAP, and see's candy stop, and three bathroom runs. Yes, four hours at the mall today with no stroller. The kids and I had a blast laughing the whole day! A memory that will not soon be forgotten! Go to the mall today...I dare you! HA!

Happy 44th Wedding Anniversary!

44 years ago today, my dad and mom were married here in Fresno California at the First Covenant Church on Tulare and Divisadaro. They met in Greece and were engaged there. My mom then traveled with her soon-to-be mother-in-law to travel to the USA. My dad had to stay behind and finish out his Army duties. She never spent a night away from home, and here Stella was traveling to a far off country where the only word she knew was "Hello". It was on that flight where she traveled with Popi, a young bride off to meet her husband in the big USA. Since that day, those two have remained best friends. Back to the wedding, my mom went to the hairdressers alone, her parents couldn't afford to come, borrowed her dressed, the church lent them a car to travel to their honeymoon in good old Los Banos-their first night was at what we now know as The Budget Inn and then off to Carmel. (My dad did make up this honeymoon the following year to Hawaii!) They have been through thick and thin and still remain by each other's side. From Madison street (they lived next door to my Dad's mom) to Ridgeview Avenue, they have been through it all. From struggling to get pregnant for 10 years and then adopting from Greece to three kids and our car accidents, our tears, our joys, our schooling through private schools, public schools, private again, college, weddings, grandbabies, illnesses and losses. My dad LOVES my mom. Takes care of her everyday. In sickness and in health, my dad embodies this in its entirety. For richer or poorer...my mom stuck through my dad starting his business from scratch, a tough task for an immigrant with a heavy accent, where the City of Fresno wouldn't give him job because of it. Has provided for her for everything. She never wanted, she always had more than she needed. My dad is the best husband and father a girl could ever ask for. My mom took care of my dad, always putting him first (a difficult task with three children), always had dinner on the table, a clean house, 30 ironed shirts-my dad wore a suit and tie daily-he never laundered his shirts, lunches packed for every kid and her husband everyday, we were always clean, well dressed, and well fed. There was not better wife and mother than my mother. And it saddens me so to see her now and what this disease has made of her. I love my parents and I love their marriage. My mom always said she was the boss of the house and my dad was the boss of his job. He gave her a pay check every two weeks to take care of everything in the house and she did. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the 4th of July! I love the BBQ's, the colors, the festivities, family gathering, and most of all my baby boy Loukas was born on this day. So parties are always big, patriotic, and full of food, desserts, and family. However, this year my little man has asked for a non-patriotic party. A motorcycle party at Pump-It-Up with no Red-White-and Blue, no fireworks, and not at home. So sad. But it is his BIG 5, so I let him have a non-patriotic birthday. But I just had to reminisce on the parties in the past and the fun times we had. Hope fully you get inspired for your BBQ this weekend! I will be making him his Flag birthday cake, no matter what!!! 10 years with Johnny Jones

Today is our 10 year wedding anniversary. I cannot believe 10 years has passed. Being married to Johnny Jones has been the best 10 years of my life. We met on September 1st 2000 and were engaged on January 1st 2001 and married on June 23, 2001. We sold his first home, lived with my parents for 6 months, built a home of our own, sold a car, traded in a car, bought two cars, had 4 children, got laid off, had thyroid removed, took care of mom daily, lost his father, done Disneyland one too many times, done Vegas not enough times, crashed car in garage too many times, balanced the checkbook monthly (are we going to live on that?), laughed and cried, and loved. I truly married my best friend. We have gone through so much in these pass 10 years and I wouldn't re-do a thing! I love you John Jones, a little more today than yesterday, but not as much as tomorrow. Thank you for loving me, thinking I am as beautiful as the day you married me, gave me my four babies, my Louie:), my life and so many memories! I look forward to the rest of our lives as we experience the unknown together. I hope I get to be with you, both mentally and physically for a very long time! I am so blessed to have you as my husband. Love you, babe!

On the eve of Father's Day, many emotions are experienced by all. Some sadness as they remember their dads and others in anger as they don't remember or choose to forget. Here in the Jonesy household I was blessed and fortunate to have an amazing dad, one I can never appreciate more or show enough gratitude for the life he gave and for creating the person I am today. I can't really buy him anything, because he can go out and get whatever he wants or needs. I know I have shared the greatness of this man on my blog before, but tonight it's just remembering my dad as MY DAD. When I looked up the word "Father" in the dictionary I got the following:
1. Father

a. A male person whose sperm unites with an egg, resulting in the conception of a child.

b. A man who adopts a child.

c. A man who raises a child.

When you look up Father in Nina's heart this is the definition you find:

a. A male person who instills confidence into their child.

b. A man who takes care of his family, always there, always there.

c. A man who will give their life for their own.

That is Paul Dictos. Whenever I have any new news, whether good or bad, there is one person I call first. My dad will either rejoice with me, or he will sing to me to lift my spirits up. There is something special about a dad who loves when you love, rejoices with a happy dance when you're happy, and weeps with you when you are saddened by life. I used to drive down to Calwa to do my initial student teaching and I would come home and share the bilingual stories of my day. And to this day, my dad will call me when he passes Calwa and remembers my time there. And we laugh and reminisce of those days. As a child I remember getting scratchy kisses when my dad came home on late nights. I would be dead asleep, but would wake up with that 5 o'clock shadow kiss and in the morning a little red rash on my face reminding me someone loves me. There were mornings in the Dictos home where after ironing 15 shirts each (my sissy and I, not my brother, he was the second man of the house) if they were not done perfectly there would be my dad at 6am in his whity tighties and the incorrectly ironed shirt. We would get a mini lesson on how to iron properly. Ahh...memories. I could go on as many of you probably can as well, of all those times we have had with our dads. I am a perfectionist because of my dad. I have a temper, because of my dad. I have a round face because of my dad. I am passionate because of my dad. I am confident, because I knew growing up that I was beautiful, "the best!", and able to do anything I put my mind to...because my dad told me that everyday and believed it. He believed it so much that he brought home every Ivy League college application and I believed it as I filled them all out and sent them! He believed it as I ran 7 times for student body office and lost every time! He believed it as I received flowers on the first day of my teaching job every year until I stopped. He believes it every time he picks up that phone and we chat about our day, our lives, our tribulations...everyday, multiple times a day. Not a day goes by where I haven't talked to my dad...not a day. I love you dad, more than words on a paper, more than any gift, more than any action, more than life. Happy Father's Day to the man I admire, love, and cherish for all the things you have made me to be and will be...Ninaki

What inspires you?
The day I found out we were having a baby boy, my husband and I headed to every children’s clothing store in town only to be disappointed. First off…..the amount of girls clothes far exceeded the number of options for boys. Second, all the boys clothes that were available were too “cutesy” and just didn’t fit my husbands and my style. I know that I am mommy to the most adorable BABY boy….but there is a reason his nickname in Mini Man! I wanted clothes that captured the concept that baby boys aren’t only sweet and cuddly, but also charming, studly, and cool! Now, getting to see our designs on other Mini Men and Little Ladies in the world, keeps us wanting to explore and create more!

What's your favorite piece you have created so far?
It has to be our tie shirts! I love all the custom orders we get for these and that often times, these are worn for some veryspecial occasions like holidays and weddings for our customers.

How do you find balance between family and work?
Fortunately, by starting this business with my mom, we are able to split up the work so life doesn’t get too crazy. But truthfully, I typically only work on Mini Man Apparel when my son is sleeping. If it comes down to making a tulle skirt or reading with Waylon, I’m picking up a book and finishing the skirt when he goes to bed.

What do u want to accomplish with your business?
Currently, Mini Man Apparel is only a side job to the full time jobs that both my mom and I have. Eventually, we would love to make it a full time job. However, as it is, Mini Man Apparel gives me the opportunity to spend quality time with my mom, tap into my creative outlet, and have some fun!

What are your latest designs? Anything new?
Tulle skirts! I just love creating these for our customers and pairing it with a special birthday onesie or personalized top! So girly and perfect for so many events in life!

Personalized pillow case dresses! The super cute and comfortable dress for the summer! Just love them!

Today we have a graduation party to share with everyone!!! This past Memorial Day, I was privileged to create a dessert buffet in honor of a friend's son. And what I love most about this family is their tradition of having all four of their kid's grad party on Memorial Day in Grammi's back yard. And this son was the baby, the last of the big parties. This mom takes into account every child's wishes for their party. She honors them by making the party about that particular child. This one did not want a party, he is quiet and reserved and a Vegan! So after begging he let her throw an intimate, simple, but clever, party! I had to hold back and create something that represented Joe. And take a look at these pictures and see how well this child was captured that evening. Kirstan created all the details of the table settings and food menu was created by Pardinis, all vegan! And the red velvet cupcakes are Vegan as well created by the Cupcake King. Smore's and cookies and ll labels were created by SugarPalooza, and the layer cake was made by Becky Cultoure. And the cupcake stand was purchased online through a great company called Roxy Heart Vintage that got it to me in three days! And all these BEAUTIFUL photos were taken by Michelle Temple. Thanks! I'm Not...

I'm not the parent that gets to brag about their kids grades or how many academic awards they receive on a daily basis. I'm not the parent who has those perfectly behaved children, dressed in perfectly matching clothes, perfectly gelled hair, and sparkling whites. I'm not the parent who has the highest achieving children in gymnastics, dance, basketball, soccer, wrestling, and swimming. I am the parent who THOUGHT I would BE that kind of parent. But after four children, 2 in public education, and all 4 in multiple activities, I have been brought to my knees. My kids are teaching me that I am NOT perfect. (REALLY shocked with this one!) They are teaching me humbleness. Deep, deep, humbleness. This past Tuesday, when my 4 1/2 year old son asked "Mom, why didn't they call my name yet?" when both his cousin and friend's names were called to make a swimming team, a little piece in me died. How do you tell him he wasn't good enough? Oh my sweet, sweet boy. Those of you who know him, know just how sweet he really is and how easy it is to just be broken with that question. "It's okay," I said (as I was crying inside). "Next time you have to try harder. Harder than you did this time!" So today has come and gone, it was a tough one as you can see with my venting. But we need to try harder tomorrow, harder than we did today.

Today I wanted to share with you a party, not a birthday party, but a baby shower! I just love this gal and her parties are always just as unique! And she finally got me some of her pics from her last party which happened to be a baby shower. So today, my party Friday is a sweet baby shower thrown by Michelle Temple. She is a talented photographer as well, so her pictures are AMAZING!!! Check out her pictures as well as her inspirations. She shared her party and her tips! My dear friend Katie was having a boy so her sister and I put our brains together to come up with something special for her. I always have something that inspires my theme. Sometimes it is the food, colors, the invitation, most often a picture I saw on a blog, or in this case fabric. We knew we wanted to do something aqua and red so I went searching for some fabric. I get a lot of fabric and Quilters Paradise in Old Town Clovis. Now don't let the name scare you away. I am not a quilter, but they have lots of great fabric. The nice part about fabric is that you can keep reusing it. I have already used it over 3 times just since the shower. Now that I knew what my colors were exactly, it was on to finding some sort of centerpiece and add on to my theme a bit.

You will see a lot of signs at the parties I do. I think they add such a fun touch. Food especially just looks so cute with a label on it. Sometimes I just print something, punch holes and add cute ribbon like the “big sister” sign. Other times I put something in a frame. It just depends on what you have available. I recently have been making chalk board signs. These are great since you can just keep reusing them over and over again, without the hassle of printing anything.

The favors Katie's sister found off of a blog. I loved that it went great with our vintage books. We just printed the text on white card stock and cut them out. We found three different papers we liked and cut them in triangles, and glued them on top. Next we punched a hole in the top center with some brown natural looking twine we got at Michaels. This would be a great favor for all sorts of parties and you can add whatever quote you want.

Now to the food. It was an earlier shower so we did brunch style food. A lot of her family did the food. Quiche, bagels from Panera, and fruit.

The desserts were from Frosted Cakery. I did not want to go to heavy since it was early in the day so I went with their breakfast cupcakes. I also had cake balls and desserts shots( key lime pie, and tiramisu). All the desserts were small and mini so people would not feel like they were eating something to heavy.

I have to talk a bit about the little white vases. I have used these now at almost every event lately. They were a clearance item at Martins Silk Flowers on Blackstone. I always try to snag stuff I know is not only a great price, but that I know I will reuse over and over again. The other thing I love about these vases is that you don't have to put a lot of flowers in them to make them look full, which is a great money saver.

My final word of advise. Always keep you budget in mind or you will end up spending way to much. Simplify, borrow if you can, and use what you have! I wish all of you luck on your next party planning adventure. I hope some of these ideas will inspire you.

The thing that inspires me most about creating is my children. The products that I make have evolved as they have grown and their interests and needs have changed. I continue to make baby blankets and tutus however, it makes me sad to think that they have completely grown out of that phase!

I can't say that I have a "favorite" piece that I have created. I have equally enjoyed it all because it makes me remember back to that point in my children's lives...whether it was them swaddled in their baby blankets or dancing in their little tutus I have fond memories of it all.

Trying to find the perfect balance between family, work, life is the neverending struggle. I have found myself at my sewing machine many a late nights long after the kids have gone to bed. Somehow it always works out in the end!

As far as what I want to accomplish with my business....right now it's just a hobby. I enjoy making things for my children, family, & friends. If it should take off in the future great, but for now I'm just having fun.

Like I said earlier, my creations keep evolving as my children grow. My latest designs are fabric applique personalized tshirts & sweatshirts. I've made a variety of things from flowers to hearts to peace signs.

Elegant Sweet Baby Girl Shower

Today I had the privilege of attending a beautiful shower! It was for a gal that I used to babysit...(I don't feel old, I don't feel old!) But you know me, I had to take some pictures for you from the shower because it was such a sweet shower! Decorated so nicely! Fresh flowers adorned the table and beautiful linens dressed the tables. There was so much love in the room from grammi, aunts, cousins, and friends. This is one lucky little girl! We are so excited for her arrival, we can't hardly wait! Thanks Ellen for a fabulous shower and Megan for inviting us! It was a fabulous day!!!

Good Morning...I am so excited to share with you yet another Talented Mom here in our Valley. She is a wonderful photographer whom I have known for a while now and have enjoyed seeing her blossom! So exciting to see friends become successful!!! Please help me welcome Kim from Kimberly Renee Photography! She has 4 children and she home schools them. She has a huge heart for children and does most of my photo shoots when it comes to my tables and events! The way God created light inspires me the most. It brings out different colors depending on the time of day. I love how it sets a mood depending on how bold or soft it is. I love a cloudy day when the light is magical and iridescent.

My favorite piece is the one I attached. It was one of those cloudy days when the light was soft. This shoot was at the client's home and the idea for this particular shot was the client's. She wanted to use art work that was in the home. We propped up a couple of the framed art pieces against the wall and had the baby sit in the front of them so we could see her reflection. Then we opened the front door and the light fell on the baby just right. When I look at this photo, I can't help but to wonder what this little girl was thinking about.

I actually didn't set out to start a photography business. It was my hobby, and when I quit my other part time job so that I could focus on homeschooling my kids, I begin pondering on how I could make some extra income on the side. Then literally 2 days later, a friend of a family member asked if they could pay me to take some photos. This got the ball rolling, and my friend, Tracey Hedge, who is a photographer up in Redding, CA, encouraged me to start a business. God's timing is always perfect! I love how I can take clients when needed and arrange my photography schedule around my family instead of my family around my job. Of course there are always those hectic weeks where my job ends up taking priority, but I feel privileged that I can rearrange it the next week to keep my priorities straight.

I'm constantly reading, taking classes, and learning more about photography. I even had the privilege to host a photography workshop at my home that Tracey Hedge taught. I don't know it all, but am a constant work in progress.

My goal with my business is to help people show their story through images. The song on my website says it all...."It happens in a blink..." The song is Blink by the band Revive. I wrote the band asking if I could use their song on my website, and they gave me permission. This cemented the theme for my site, "Show Your Story."

With my business, I want to be a blessing to others and use the income to add margin in my family's income. I pray before every shoot and ask God to bless the people I'm with and that all I do is for Him.

One of my favorite projects are my Bride-To-Be shots. A friend of mine had a baby several years ago who was born with a heart defect. The baby needed open heart surgery as a newborn. Before surgery, she lovingly placed her baby girl in her wedding dress and took some photos. I thought this was the sweetest thing and began taking photos of my own girls in my wedding dress. I've done this for a few other clients and am beginning a collection of babies and young girls in their mothers' wedding dresses.

I usually meet clients on location and at their homes. 1 hour is usually the perfect amount of time for a photo session and gives ample time to capture the perfect shot. Newborn sessions are usually at clients' homes so mom and baby are the most comfortable. I have "Build Your Own" packages available for families who want to plan 3 or more shoots a year for family photos, birthday parties, and/or individual shots. Session fees are at a lesser rate this way.

Birthday Party Friday

Today I am going to share with you my daughter's Pajama Wama Night Owl Party...it was one of my favorites! The Vendors that helped make this day so special was Snowy Bliss, Kimberly Moore Photography, SugarPalooza, Cupcakes by Becky Coulture, Carmel Kids, Michaels, The Dollar Store, Olivia Dru, and Cupcake Event Designs, and Stinkin' Cute Designs. Now on to more details so you can re-create this party! So much fun to be had!!!
First the invitation...
Ordered from Snowy Bliss. She emailed me the invite and I stuck each piece on individually for some dimension. Here is just a picture of the invite with no dimension.

Next the table which needed to be converted into a bed...thanks again Snowy Bliss for selling your template. I simply ordered off her Etsy Store and printed our on a transparency and then enlarged on an overhead projector. I purchase Foam Board (4ftx8ft) from Michaels for 10.00 each. Traced with a sharpie and cut out and voila! Covered table with a full sheet flat sheet (boy those come in handy-never use them at home, but glad I save it!) Bedding from Kohl's.

Then came the place settings...

I used my nifty frame cutter from Creative Memories and created place mats from different scrapbook paper. Then the plate from Party City and the Owl Craft from Michaels then the most adorable bottles from a friend who bought them from a farm! Thanks Michelle!

Wrapped the bottles with 2 inch scrapbook paper and cut out a cupcake topper with a flourish square punch out from Create For Less.

The grass is the edible grass from Target with malt ball eggs and a felt flower from Michaels on a candle stick!

Now for the dessert table which turned out so sweet! (get it?) I used the template from Snowy Bliss again for a window and created some owls (SugarPalooza). Traced it on a canvas board, painted it (I tried to be artistic) and glued the paper owls I created on it. Made it feel like it was night time! All the labels on the dessert table were created by SugarPalooza except for the cupake toppers, those were from Snowy Bliss. I then purchased the most adorable cupcake stand from Olive Dru (Etsy) and hung the ever famous black frame from Ikea in front of the cupcakes. I purchased the push pop containers from Cupcake Event Designs, I sell them now, and SugarPalooza created the labels. I rented the brown pots from Pineapple Girl Rentals for $5.00 and I stuffed them with some foam, used some colorful Easter grass and voila! A master piece!!!

What are your favorite pieces you've created and why?
My fav thing about what I create is a custom, healthy looking SO BRONZED airbrush tan. I simply love making people look and feel better about themselves-it's instant gratification!

How do you balance family/kids, work and everything else?
Balance is key. I set my priorities and don't deviate. List them if you have to. When your kids get older as mine are, it's easier to modify your time a bit and my time has become more flexible.

What do you want to accomplish with your business?
Establish a great relationship with my clientele that keeps me busy and grow/expand my business in new ways/new venues.

Hello friends! Today I have a very special mom who has taken her idea and has made it pretty BIG!!! So exciting to see a mom like you and me come up with a practical idea and make it a successful business. I am sure you have seen these around and if you haven't then you're in for a treat! Not only am I able to share with you this mom's talent, but she has been VERY generous with us and is hosting our very first EVER Giveaway on this blog!!! I am so excited for this giveaway. What inspires you most with creating?

My kids inspire me. I created the first Pilloroo over a decade ago. I was leaving my nephew Jacob’s house. I had just been playing Army men with him on the floor in his room. He was 4 and a half and just the cutest rough and tumble little guy. I needed to get him a Christmas present and I thought – a pillow with his own Secret Hiding Spot for his Army men. I loved the idea that it would be something to comfort him, and he loved that he was the only one who knew what was in his Pillow. Christmas morning it was a huge hit!

What are your favorite pieces you've created and why?
We have a journal pillow that comes in a beautiful Pilloroo with a bow. It’s such a wonderful gift for girls. I’ve had moms purchase them so they can write back and forth with their daughters. Mom writes a letter and the then the daughter responds. It’s a great experience, and I think it will be a wonderful keepsake as well.

How do you balance family/kids, work and everything else?
At times it is tough to balance family and the business. Sometimes I feel like Pilloroo is my fourth child and the most needy. <: I am constantly reminding myself that my children and my husband are my most important priorities. I am getting better at scheduling times for Pilloroo and just feeling good about what I can get done in that window of time.

What do you want to accomplish with your business?
I just want to make kids and our customers happy. Nothing makes me feel better than seeing a person open the zipper and have a really good chuckle about what is hidden in the pocket.
We have recently done some events that have benefitted the Marjaree Mason center in town – our local center for victims of domestic violence. I would like to see our company get bigger so that our donations can be bigger.

Do you have any new creations in the works?

If so, what can shoppers expect to see from you soon?
Yes. We have a teen and preteen line in development that we are really excited about. We are also working with an author from Beverly Hills on a Pilloroo with a book and a plush character from the book. It would be a great gift and wonderful nap set.

It's been a week since my surgery (Thyrodectamy) and I have to give praise to the Lord for keeping me healthy, no cancer, and functioning pretty good with my new medication. During the time I checked into the hospital till right now, I have experienced a lot of different emotions. A little fear being checked into the hospital and laying on that surgical bed knowing what these doctors, also known as humans who can and do make mistakes, are about to perform. Weak; after waking up from surgery. Foggy; as I am pumping in morpheme to not feel pain. Tired, from all that morpheme. Sick, from all that morpheme. Love, from all my friends who came to the hospital, who sent flowers, who text, sent meals, and blessed from my family.

(the green beard I woke up with, it took a couple of days of scrubbing for that to come off!)

Sadness when not feeling like me, and secure as I went to recover at 8486. That number will forever have meaning to me. It's where I grew up, it's where I learned to be me. Where I would enter through the garage into a kitchen always smelling of garlic and olive oil and lots of noise. A passionate mother, and strong father, and crazy siblings! That's where I went to spend a few days after surgery to escape the loudness of my own home. I spent two days and nights in the 5th bedroom as we call it. And it's funny how no matter who came by, everyone sat in the 5th bedroom of this 3200 sq ft home. One night there were 7 people and an infant, sitting on top of each other with Greek TV blaring and everyone just being together. That 5th bedroom is where John and I lived for 6 month when building our home. It's the bedroom where all the kids used to have all their toys when visiting Papou and Yiayia. It's the hub of the house, the hub of my healing. My dad checked on me at night and had breakfast served for me in the morning. He was so happy to take care of me. I can always count on that man, always. My dad's arms is where I always can find my peace, my healing. Just like our Heavenly father, my dad exhibits his characteristics. 8486, Big Love, Big rooms, Big Peace...love that place.

The fifth bedroom, this is what I got to enjoy. You can't see it to clearly, but my dad has a big grin on his face as he enjoys the fullness of his home:)

What are your favorite pieces you've created and why?

I have so many favorites! I love my keepsake silverware. The sets are such a unique and fun keepsake gift to give and each is personalized with the receiver’s name and favorite colors. My military bibs are recent additions to my collection and are fun to make. They bring back fond memories of my days as an Air Force brat and were inspired by my niece and nephews that are current USMC brats. Of course my bows and headbands are a never ending opportunity to try new colors and materials to match my daughter’s (and her friends) outfits and uniforms.

How do you balance family/kids, work and everything else?

I have been a night owl my entire life. I do my best work after everyone is tucked in and the house is nice and quiet. After a busy day of being a mom, wife, school volunteer and part-time Weight Watcher employee, I look forward to my quiet time late at night! My family comes first, my craft business is just icing on my cake.

What do you want to accomplish with your business?

Personalized pillows! I can’t wait to try my new idea that I have for the son of one of our Fallen Soldiers. I told my daughter about it and she wants one for herself and her BFF, but said she can wait until after the little boy gets his first.

I am learning the ins-n-outs of creating my own website. I am experiencing the fun and headaches that come with doing it yourself. Of course, the creativity I get to use to make it my own far outweigh the hassle of doing it yourself! It is just another fun way to express my love for sewing and sharing my crafts with others. Good morning one and all! I have a really cute Fairy party to share with you today. One I did at Carmel Kids over this past weekend. The birthday girl LOVES Fairys and we rolled with the theme. We made flower Pens as the craft, hair and make-up, put on our wings, mom bought hair wreaths and wands to add to their costumes. We had a Fairy candy bar and Fairy cupcakes inpired from HowDoesShe.com They featured a Fairy party and we had to re-create it! We had a prfessional photographer, which makes all the difference when capturing the moment! So here is a collage, I will have more pictures to come! I do not mean to feature myself, but I didn't want to break our streak of talented moms, so here I go! One of my favorite Candy Buffets would have to be the sweet sixteen Turqoise and hot pink! I loved the Doughnut Kabobs and the bright touch of yellow added throughout! And the backdrops was one of my favorites!

How do you balance family/kids, work and everything else?
It's always a struggle, and my house is NOT always clean, but you just do! And I always count to 10...slowly!!!

What do you want to accomplish with your business?
I want to decorate and organize parties till I die! I want to plan big and small events and see the joy from guests and clients! I love seeing the joy from people who see their party and are just speechless!!!

My friend Michelle threw an awesome party last weekend for her daughter who turned 9 years old. She always does a great job with her parties because of the time she spends on details. I always think the more time on detail, the more a party stands out and is remembered...and it's those same details that can keep us up till the wee hours of the night! Cadee had 20 girlfriends (plus 2 brothers) for a Donuts & Milk Sleepover Party! I spent days baking and creating...and loved every second of the exhaustion...LOL! This was a really awesome theme and there were so many cute things to do, we couldn't possibly do them all....BUT WE TRIED!!!
Thanks to SugarPalooza for hot pink tablecloths, breakfast milk jugs, the "tree" that I ADORE and want for EVERY party, and the chairs!!! Many of the labels were created by Paper Glitter and the PDF files purchased and gifted to us (thank you, Nina)! Also a shout out of thanks to Jennifer Miller for making the "Delicious Donuts" banner and lending us her boys' Wii....and to Stacy Luna for lending us the dance videos. Huge Hit, of course! Thanks, Lisa Graham for the use of the sacks for the sack races! It takes a village to raise kids...AND to THROW A GOOD PARTY!!! ;-D Love you, friends!

Ahh...the scent of fresh picked cherries is all wrapped up in this candle from Bath and Body. These have been my small addiction lately for teacher gifts, friend gifts, birthday gifts, happy gifts! I just LOVE these candles! When I get home I always light this candle in my kitchen and while I'm cleaning, yelling, baking, cleaning, folding laundry, and trying to put this house back together again-the slight whiff of some fresh cherries brings a little peace to this puzzle called life! What inspires you most with creating?

Finding a good font! I tend to stick with one for awhile and design like crazy until I get tired of it and have to move on to something else. The font I’m using right now is selling really well so I think I’ll stick with it for awhile!

What are your favorite pieces you've created and why?

Right now my favorite piece is my I Heart Baseball design because I don’t consider myself a creative person AT ALL and I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback. People have said that using the bat for the I was creative. I’m happy with that! I also love a design I did for a women’s sorority that says “Who let the girls out?” because I came up with the design all on my own with just the phrase from them. And then I really like the big BHS, CHS, and SHS designs I made where the letters lock together. The designs took a long time to get just right so it’s rewarding to see them turn out like I had in mind.

How do you balance family/kids, work and everything else?

By the grace of God and working very late most nights! During the day, I’m taking my girls to school, dance, Awana, doctor appointments, etc. and volunteering in classrooms, book fairs, etc. After they go to bed is when I have time to sit in front of my computer and design or work on my website. It helps that I have a very supportive husband as well!

What do you want to accomplish with your business?

My favorite part is seeing people get excited about something that I created. Helping to pay the bills is a nice bonus, too. :)

I always have new creations in the works! The sports mom designs seem to be quite a hit so I’m working on

building up my selection of various sports and activities. I love suggestions for any type of design!

Life is tough...but not so much.

At the end of the day, I always sit back and take a deep breath and just sink into my bed and fall asleep very quickly. In those few seconds between exhaustion and sleep, I realize how tough my days are, but how not so much. How there are people who REALLY have a tough story and a much more challenging life than myself, but for me a lot goes on in a day as I imagine most of you feel the same way. My typical day consist of waking up before my kids to get dressed and ready so I can get everyone else ready. Say bye to the hubby and get four little ones ready. For one hour a lot of "get dressed", "brush your teeth", "comb your hair", "did you brush your teeth?", "get your backpack", "don't forget your homework", "your lunch!", you get the jished. Then off to school for two, preschool for one a 1/2 hour later, and gym for some me time-1 hour. Then off to grocery shopping for the week, prepare dinner, bake some cookies for an order, create some labels for a party, pick up from school, nap one kid, maybe watch some other kids, pick up from school, pick up my and take care of my mother, take one to gym or dance or basketball, pick up from gym, dance or basketball, eat dinner, take mother to my dad, come back home, bath, more dinner, teeth, read, bed...laundry, kitchen clean-up, load dishwasher, clean up bathroom, put away the day, pack lunches for tomorrow, wipe down counter...huff-puff, sleep...do it all over again! But then in the normal routine of life, we get some bumps...for me it was a bump, one I felt on my neck. So I quickly went to the doctor and went through the motions one would for any bump or lump. Ultra sound, biopsy, diagnoses. Easy, right? In between all that, your mind wonders, what if? Who would do what? Who would take my kids? Who would do my life? You can go crazy! Lucky for me, it was nothing but a nodule, benign, but in my Thyroid and it must all be removed! What? No Thyroid? How does one live? Are you normal? Do you gain weight, which I so desperately try not to do on a daily basis! What can I not do? How long am I out of my life routine? Why me? I already have genes for vericose veins, genes for Alzheimer, fat genes, I mean really? Anything else? Now a Thyroid disease? The questions, the self-pity can go on and on, how does one deal? Then everyone feels like they should share their horror stories so you can be prepared-really? Note to self-never share your horror story, it never makes anyone more prepared. But in the midst of the storm, no matter how big or small, or how many bad genes one can inherit, the only peace is Jesus. Just saying His name brings me peace. I don't know what my future holds-it doesn't always look so bright- but I just pray it's enough time to go through my day over and over and over again. Every laundry, every mess, every report card, every fight, every worry, every bruised knee, wet sheets, broken down cars, bad hair days, more vericose veins, kids not going to bed, cleaning the kitchen again, everything...I pray the Lord let's me see all of it and be a part of it for a long time. A long long time. "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34

Today I am so excited to share with you a unique place to have a birthday party! It's Hillcrest and there is a train the kids can ride over and over and an old tree house they can play in for hours. Down by their river there is a castle too and it is quiet magical! It was my friend's little boy's birthday...he is one of the cutest 3 years old boys I know! His name is Ty and all he wanted for his birthday was a cupcake! And he got two! The dessert table was the Vintage Train collection from TomKat and mom made it super cute! Good morning everyone! I would like to introduce to you a mom who has started a business with her sewing abilities! I LOVE all of her work and her designs are getting noticed everywhere!!! She even has a line at our local boutique, Ever After! Please welcome Khrysten Kent of Khrysten Kent Collection.

I started making burp cloths about 5 years ago. At the time it was the only item I made. The concept came from my desire to have something nice to pull out my diaper bag that was functional but also attractive. So I used a cloth diaper (functional), and I sewed a soft piece of fabric down the center and trimmed it will ribbon (attractive) and Viola! The first Khrysten Kent Collection item was born!

I did my first show and my line was picked up by Mommy Matters in Fresno. I approached Desi Howard the owner of Ever After in Fresno and she picked my line up also. From there people started asking if I could make baby blankets, lovies, nursing covers, cribbing and custom bedding. That was what made the product line grow into what it is today.

What inspires me most when creating new products is fashion. I study color and trends and see what is coming out and from there decide on what I will bring into my product line and what will go.

Balancing my family, my kids schedule and making sure that my husband and each of my 4 children have what they need is always in a constant state of reinvention. What works this week, may not next. I keep God and family first, the business comes after. I don’t have to do this business but it is my creative outlet and I love it.

Some of my favorite pieces that I have created are the big girl blankets. They are new this year and they are more edgy and fun than a traditional baby blanket. I also love the new toile line the “Bebe Fille” and “Bebe Garcon.” My very favorite things though are the single custom items, cribbing and bedding that are specifically designed for a given space and person.

I hope that my business will grow and flourish into a major product line at some point in the future but not at my family’s expense. Once my youngest is in school full time I will look at doing more marketing but for now my website and word of mouth is great.

Keep your eyes out for more big kid blankets I need to create something for the boys too!!!I am in the process of redoing my website so keep and eye for that too.

You can live with 'em, and you can't live without 'em

No I am not talking about husbands, that is another post, another time; What I am talking about tonight is my love/hate relationship with vacuums. I have never had much luck with vacuums and it seems to have gotten worse over time; time and four children that is. Growing up we had an Electrolux; gray with a hose and a canister you would pull around. As one of our many chores, we would have to vacuum and I always volunteered. And thus there began my love affair for vacuums. When I first got married I went out and purchased a Hoover Wind Tunnel, bag-less. It was hunter green and around 175.00 from Sears. Hesitant to spend so much on a vacuum I opened up a charge account and made the investment! Hubby-not too thrilled-but enjoyed our clean house. That vacuum lasted 2 years and later sold and a garage sale. It would clog up too much, suction was poor and basically it wasn't doing it for me anymore...the switch from carpet to tile was a pain...you had to stop, turn the dial at the base and then continue on your marry way. So then came the Bissel vacuum that could not only vacuum dry, but wet as well, making it work like a mop! Oh I had to have...200.00 later from Lowe's. I loved it! It would do everything I ever wished for, vacuum tile, mop it, and vacuum carpet. A dream come true, except two kids later would result in broken pieces, too much to fix, and dirty water everywhere when the kiddos would open the compartment...ugh! This vacuum was sold at a garage sale with missing pieces and a non working wet side...so then came the Electrolux-upright vacumm. $175.00 from Lowe's again...this was so cute and compact...easily put in my pantry. It was easy to pull out and open up and it vacuumed like it was a big vacuum. But after time I got tired of changing the bag, it was so small...my house is so dirty from four kids that one swoop around the house and the bag was full...and the chord was too short...always had to re-plug. And then well, you know the story, it was sold at a garage sale...NO...it was given to my dad. Which he has never used. Then came time to borrow a vacuum because funds were low and we couldn't afford one. My dad let me have his dinosaur of a vacuum! It was an Electrolux...100 years old. A commercial one at that so it was for sure to clean this house good! Well, it had a wonderfully long chord, never had to re-plug, it made a horrific sound, and the kicker? Well it didn't vacuum up popcorn, broken crayons, dried pasta or anything for that matter that wasn't a dust ball...oh dear! One day my mother-in-law came for a week to help out with the family. She had to bring her Oreck...she swore by this vacuum...900.00 gift from papa...oh how it worked fabulously! My house was spectacularly clean! I wanted one-need one-coveted hers! So one day at Target, I see and Oreck! 350.00, not 900.00...had to purchase!!! And so this is where the story ends...since the Oreck last April, it has been in the shop for a clog (20.00) and in the shop again because my children broke the bag clasps and thus unbeknown to me the garbage getting sucked in, was not in the bag, but in the vacuum body! It was a night mare to clean up, and 70.00 to fix! The vacuum shop let me borrow their vacuum for a week...ahhh! I used it all week, cleaned up everything, popcorn a little difficult, and chord too short, but wow on the cleaning overall! In one week the bag (which they opened up to make me see how filthy my house is) was disgusting, but it had picked up everything! Price tag...$2500.00!!! So here I am left with a vacuum the shop described as crap, fixed, but not doing so good. When oh when will I find the vacuum to end the quest of my vacuum fetish! When I do find one that can withstand four curious children, popcorn, long chord, no suction problem, easy change from tile to wood to tile, and one that can never break, I will shout it from a very high place my overjoyed feeling! For now, I will rest with my Oreck and sweep up what it doesn't get, and pray for a vacuum straight from heaven!

Birthday Party Friday

Do I have a treat for you today! I get to share with you a carnival party...I just love carnival parties. Lots of people do them because you can do so much with this theme and keep children entertained for hours! I just love all the bright colors and the fun games that can happen in a carnival setting! Take a look on how Lisa created and put together her carnival party birthday party. She enlisted help from her friend, Michelle, who also had done a carnival party in the past for her daughter. Love when you find a friend with ideas and materials to help out with your party! Recycling themes us a great way to save money as well!!! Lisa wanted to give full credit to Michelle for her ideas and letting her use them! Great job!

Centerpieces - found all of these things a the Dollar Store except the lollipops.

The carnival games mostly game from Oriental Trading Company. Can't even make them for the price I paid! The balloon pop game (not pictured) was a hit too. I put tiny papers with numbers on them inside balloons and the kids had to pop the balloon to see how many tickets they won. Even the little kids liked this! We used small waterballoons for this... minus the water. :)

The cake! Lisa made it too!!! This was all her...love your cake!!!!

Food Table-Fabric covered boxes; fabric was from Michelle and so was the idea.

The Hit the Target game was just ZooPal plates taped to a window and we used nerf dart guns to hit them. They won the number of tickets printed on the plate they hit.

Prize Table - Everything was either ordered from Oriental Trading Co. or from the Dollar Store, even the tickets were from the dollar store.
